From idea to real thing in 5 steps

Designer Bee is built for people who have never designed anything. Here's the whole journey, including the one step other sites pretend doesn't exist.

1. 1

   Choose a project

   Start in the project library. Every card tells you what you'll make, which machine it needs, roughly how long the design takes, and whether the build needs any extra part (like a clock movement kit). New to all of it? Pick anything marked "Great first project".

   Customize it

   Every project opens with presets that already look good — pick one and you're 90% done. From there it's sliders and text boxes: size, style, your name, your photo. The preview updates live, and nothing you upload ever leaves your browser.

   Download your file

   One button gives you the build file: an SVG for laser cutting (with separate cut and engrave layers) or an STL for 3D printing. Files use real millimeter units, so what you designed is exactly what comes out.

4. 4

   Prepare it for your machine

   This is the step most sites skip. Your file makes one stop in the machine's own free software — LightBurn, Glowforge, or xTool for lasers; Bambu Studio, Cura, or PrusaSlicer for printers — where you pick the material and it generates the job. 5. 5

   Go make it

   Run the job. Engrave then cut on a laser; watch the first layer stick on a printer. A few minutes later you're holding something you designed — and that feeling is the whole reason this site exists.
